The NCI Ontario Diploma program creates an enriched learning environment that integrates many disciplines to enhance the knowledge of the coach. The NCI fosters and develops excellence in coaching by providing the knowledge and skills for high performance coaches through a two-year diploma program, resulting in NCCP Level 4 certification. The program is competency-based, integrating classroom study with a coaching practicum under the leadership of a master coach in the related sport.
This two-year part time program allows coaches to pursue professional development without interrupting their careers. It includes the required tasks to complete NCCP Level 4 certification and is augmented with courses in communication, choice theory, resilience training, the power of validation, power and ethics, working with parents and coaching philosophy and values. A customized program can be created for those interested in a longer period of study.
The two year Diploma program is held over four terms, September to mid December and mid January to the end of April. Classes are held at the CSC Ontario office (near Don Mills and Eglinton in Toronto) on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 pm and one weekend a month. A weekend is defined as Friday evening from 6 to 9pm and Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
Other Options:
Coaches who live outside the Greater Toronto Area can also take the Diploma program using the online Video Library and attending the NCI 3 to 4 times a year.
If the coach lives too far to come to the NCI 3 to 4 times a year, the NCI will work with the coach to customize the Diploma program so the coach can complete the required material.
If there is a group of coaches in an outlying area, the NCI will create an outreach program with the group, providing that one member of the group will work as the co-ordinator of the group committed to the success of the group.
Coaches can also complete level 4 or 5 certification on a task by task basis either by attending individual tasks in Toronto or by using the Video Library. |
