Racquetball Canada is pleased to announce the players who will represent Canada at the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) 2010 World Championships in Seoul, South Korea next month. The team is led by veterans and current Canadian champions Mike Green of Burlington, Ont. and Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg.
Joining them on Team Canada are Vincent Gagnon (Montreal), Tim Landeryou (Saskatoon), Kris Odegard (Saskatoon), Josée Grand'Maître (Longueuil, Que.), Brandi Jacobson Prentice (Montreal) and Frédérique Lambert (Montreal).
Green and Landeryou will be playing doubles in South Korea, as they won the Pan American Championships in Honduras in April. That was Landeryou's first time on Team Canada, and he'll be going to Worlds as a player for the first time next month. Landeryou was the team referee in 2006.
The women's doubles players - Jacobson Prentice and Lambert - will also be making their first Worlds appearances, but they are the current Canadian doubles champions and both played at the Pan American Championships earlier this year.
Saunders will be looking to get further up the podium than at the last World Championships in 2008 when she finished with a bronze medal. Similarly, Gagnon will want to improve on his bronze medal finish at last year's World Games in Taipai.
Ron Brown (Winnipeg) and Michel Gagnon (Longueuil, Que.) will coach the team in Korea.
The IRF World Championships will run from August 11 to August 22. The event is held every two years and this is the second time the World Championships have been held in South Korea. They were first there in 2006.
