The CSCO’s strategic plan 2011-2015 has been developed by conducting a thorough review of the internal and external environment, by reviewing the recommendations contained in its business plan, and through extensive discussions with staff and Board. An important component of the strategic planning process was renewing the CSCO’s commitment to its mission and vision and identifying and defining a core set of values to help ensure consistency in decision-making across the organization. The strategic plan is intended to inform stakeholders about what the organization will be focusing on over the next four years and articulates a set of core activities along with specific goals that the CSCO is striving to achieve over this timeframe. In addition, two overarching, longer-term goals were identified as being a driving force behind all CSCO activities:

- More athletes and coaches training at the CSCO excel at the highest international levels.

- Ontario becomes the destination of choice for high performance athlete and coach training and development in targeted sports.

Moving forward, the strategic plan will be used by staff and Board as a planning framework to help ensure that all decisions reflect the following four strategic priorities.

Our Mission

Our mission statement explains our reason for being. It provides a clear description of who we are, who we serve, and what we do. As part of our strategic planning efforts, we renewed our commitment to our mission statement by incorporating new language that better reflects our core purpose.

The Canadian Sport Centre Ontario is committed to the pursuit of excellence by providing world-class programs, services, and leadership to high performance athletes and coaches to enhance their ability to achieve international podium performances.

Our Vision

Our vision describes our preferred future. It serves to inspire. It serves as a constant reminder of the difference we want to make. In developing our vision statement, Staff and Board provided vivid descriptions of the ‘mountain that we want to climb.’ Our mountain beckons us daily to fulfill our purpose.

The Canadian Sport Centre Ontario is a recognized world leader in high performance sport, resulting in more Canadian athletes on the international podium.

Our Values

The Staff and Board of the Canadian Sport Centre – Ontario believe that the following values are reflective of the culture we require to foster trust, achieve results, and lead with integrity. As proud employees and volunteers, we promise to use these values in supporting athletes and coaches in their daily training environment.

We believe in:

Pursuit of Excellence: As experts in our field, we are dedicated to supporting athletes and coaches in their daily training environment. We ask of ourselves what athletes and coaches demand of themselves. We seek out the most effective and efficient methods to achieve organizational excellence. As a result, we are united in our purpose to help athletes and coaches achieve international podium results.

Fueling the Passion: We take great pride in working at the CSCO and our role in Canadian sport. It is our passion that holds us accountable to each other, the athletes and coaches we serve, and the system that supports us.

Driving Innovation: We employ cutting edge practices in all that we do. We are not afraid to take risks. We are committed to sharing our knowledge - learning from what works and from what doesn’t. We continuously improve and adapt to an ever-changing landscape. We are fearless in our desire to remain ahead of the curve.

Living with Integrity: We promise to uphold the highest standards of care at all levels of the organization. We believe in treating others and each other with respect; ensuring fairness and transparency in our policies, procedures and decisions. We create a holistic work environment where people feel valued and supported.

Authentic Leadership: In partnership with other sport leaders, we recognize our role in elevating the institution of sport. We work collaboratively with others to generate robust solutions to common problems, provide a caring environment to stimulate growth, and invest in practices that contribute to consistent and ethically-based results.

Strategic Priorities

Our strategic priorities were identified by reviewing a number of important documents including the CSCO business plan, the OHPSI plan and the current CSCO strategic plan. In addition, the directors from each department were consulted to review the strategic priorities and to subsequently identify the key activities and goals that would be achieved over the course of the strategic plan. Key performance indicators will be determined to help ensure that the organization has clearly defined what success looks like and a performance measurement strategy developed for some of the key activities that warrant a more robust evaluation process.

Strategic Priority 1: Provide world-class integrated services and programs to high performance athlete, coaches and sport organizations

Strategic Priority 2: Build a stronger high performance sport system in Ontario

Strategic Priority 3: Transition into the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario - a centrally located multi-sport training and competition facility (and a network of regional centres)

Strategic Priority 4: Create and maintain a world-class workplace
